Sr.
Verona, who was then a member of the Parish Staff, founded this group
in 1982. The Craft Group provides the opportunity for interested
Parishioners to come together, exchange ideas and come to know one
another while creating hand-made articles that are sold at the annual
Christmas Bazaar in November. Please see the bulletin cover for contact information on becoming involved with this wonderful

Eucharistic Ministries
St.
Francis de Sales is blessed with the number, quality, and tremendous
dedication of the many men and women who have been trained to be our
Eucharistic Ministers. Their primary duties are to bring
Communion to the sick and shut-ins and to distribute Communion during
all of the Masses. Each week these Parishioners serve God’s
people in homes, hospitals and nursing homes throughout our
community. If you would be interested in training to help out
this terrific group of people, please see the bulletin cover for contact information.

Parishioners who also attend a religious education program. The
group meets weekly on Sunday evenings at 6:15 PM. Among the many
activities of our Youth Group are: retreats, service projects,
discussion groups, trips, etc. This group is self-supporting and
thus raises all of the funds for the operation of their program.

together by sponsoring and providing many dinners, pancake breakfasts,
variety shows, Halloween parties, Christmas celebrations, Over-60’s
Dinners, just to name a few of the Group’s projects! For

Lectors/Commentators
The
ministry of Lector at Mass is a position of honor in the Church, a
genuine Liturgical ministry. The Lector proclaims the Scripture
readings from the pulpit, and, through use of various factors of
speech, communicates the meaning of the texts to the congregation.
Commentators introduce the weekend Masses, announce the hymns, lead the
congregation in psalm responses, and make various announcements
necessary to the celebration.
St.
Francis de Sales Lectors and Commentators are Parishioners who have
volunteered for this important ministry and have been trained to
develop and perfect their skills in oral communication. There is
always a need for more men and women, young and old, to serve in this
ministry. Please see the bulletin cover for contact information.

Pastoral Assistance Program
The
Pastoral Assistance Program of St. Francis de Sales Parish has been set
up to be of assistance especially to elderly and shut-in members of our
Parish Family. Among the services available through this program
are the following: home visits to the elderly and shut-ins,
hospital visits, visiting with families of the critically ill, family
follow-up after a death, transportation assistance, etc. Many
other needs are addressed through the Pastoral Assistance Program as
such needs surface in the life of our Parish.
Volunteers are always very much needed in this critical area of our
Parish’s ministry. If you would like to volunteer to be of real
help to your brothers and sisters in Christ, if you or someone you know
needs some assistance, or if you would like more information about this
crucial ministry in our Parish, please call the Pastoral Assistant here

Philotheas Group
The
Philotheas Group is probably the oldest on-going organization in St.
Francis de Sales Parish. It was begun around the year 1971.
The group has no meetings, no officers, and most of its members
probably do not know how many Parishioners are involved in the work of
the group. The purpose of the Philotheas Group is to prepare and
take food to the home of the family of a deceased Parishioner while the
family is at the funeral Mass and cemetery. Upon notification of
the death of a member of our Parish family, the Philotheas Group is
contacted. A member of the group contacts the bereaved family and
offers to provide a light meal for 20 to 25 people, and further
arrangements are then made. The Parish provides the money for the
purchase of the meat and cheese, and the other dishes (salads, baked
beans, potato chips, rolls and bread, cake, etc.) and services are
gladly donated by members of the group. If you would be
interested in becoming a member of this very important ministry, or if
you would like more information, please see the bulletin cover for contact information.

Religious Education
Education
includes the entire process by which culture and specific knowledge is
transmitted from one generation to the next. Educational research
has proven time and again that the home is the critical educational institution.
Family and community are also extremely important in the process of any
type of education. When we speak of Religious Education in
particular, we must remember that parents are the primary and most
important teachers of their children. The vital influence of
parents in the religious development of their children must be
strengthened and supported. Family life needs to be strengthened
so that children and youth will derive their values from the home and
not primarily from external influences.
It
is, therefore, the responsibility of a Religious Education Program to
support and uphold the teachings of the home while communicating the
teachings of our Roman Catholic Faith.
St.
Francis Religious Education programs include pre-school, elementary,
junior high, high school, and adult programs and occupy a top priority
in the life of our Parish.
For more information regarding class days and times, please see the bulletin cover,
our website, or phone the appropriate contact person. Their offices are
located in the Parish Center and the phone number is 885-5908.

St. Vincent De Paul Society
The
purpose of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is primarily to assist the
poor and needy in the spirit of the charity of Jesus Christ.
Members of the St. Francis de Sales group find in this important
ministry a great deal of both the fulfillment and challenge of the
Gospel, for themselves as well as for the people they serve. The
generosity of our Parishioners through use of the monthly St. Vincent
de Paul collection envelope, donations to the “poor boxes” in the
church, and participation in food drives has enabled members to touch
the lives of very many in our community. For more information
please contact our Administration Office at 885-5908.

Welcome Committee
It
can be a lonely and sometimes traumatic experience to move into a new
city, neighborhood or parish. Our Parish Welcome Committee does
its best to cushion some of the shock of such a move by calling on new
members of our Parish Family, welcoming them into our community,
providing information about our Parish, and, in general, doing whatever
they can to help newcomers find their spiritual home here at St.
Francis de Sales. There is always a need for more men and women
to serve God and our Parish in this uniquely Christian way. Please see the bulletin cover for contact information.
